Today’s aggregation of nothing

First, it would be great if someone could explain to me why in the hell it can be 60 degrees in northern NJ on the 13th of January.  I DON’T want to hear any baloney about global warming either because I will gladly point out that last winter we spent a lot of time in the single digits.  No, this is something else, but since I’m not a weather person, I don’t understand it.  I would like to though so anyone with info, please comment or send me a note mailto:scavali@hotmail.com.  Thanks

So I recently discovered the wonders of RSS.  If you are not familiar with it, it is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication.  This Blog is a part of it and MSN Spaces allows you to enable it for your blogs through a check box for syndication.  What this does is allows users with a reader to get notification when you update your site or provide information on articles that allows the users the ability to get more detailed content later.  In my line of work I find it extremely valuable and recommend it to anyone that like reviewing an aggregate of information quickly.  I’m using the sharp reader available at http://www.sharpreader.net/ and like I said, RSS is a valuable source of quick information without having to “surf and wait”.  So why this tangent, well, in case nobody knew, I’m a volunteer firefighter in the town of Madison, NJ. Outstanding town and an outstanding department, very professional (shameless plug, http://www.madisonfd.com).  So I decided to try looking for RSS feeds for the fire service as I believe that it would be outstanding for me to have the ability to review fire service information and sort through it quickly.  Alas, I have not found any RSS feeds with fire service information ANYWHERE.  If anyone out there knows of where to find fire service information in an RSS feed, please, please, please let me know.  I would be grateful.

So, today I bought an Airport Express from Apple to install at a friends house as a wireless/broadband router and I’m here to tell you, they are awesome.  It is a tiny device (probably almost 1/4 the size of a normal linksys router) and it is more functional.  It is hard for me to admiit as an employee of the largest software company in the world, but Apple is doing an awesome job of innovating their hardware and an even better job of marketing them.  I’m really impressed

Update from yesterday

Our luck has begun to turn somewhat.   We did what we needed to do, we’re investigating the possibility of droppng Verizon wireless as our cell phone provider.  We’re thinking its worth the the $350.00 in penalties to not have their crap anymore.  I’m willing to take inferior service than to deal with them any further.  So, for all of those folks who commented on our bad luck day, thank you, it was just that, one bad day.

Check out the pics.  I’ll post some more soon.  TTFN
